Head of English

The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Head of English to lead our highly successful English Department. The successful candidate will be passionate about English, have high expectations of pupils and be committed to fostering a love of reading, writing and literature throughout the School. 

The Head of English will be responsible for leading and developing the English curriculum from EYFS to Year 8 and preparing pupils for Common Entrance and Senior School Scholarship examinations to a range of leading senior schools.  The role will include monitoring pupil progress, supporting colleagues within the department and championing literacy across the School.

The postholder will contribute fully to the wider life of the School, including extracurricular activities, educational visits and occasional Saturday morning provision as required.  As a busy prep and boarding school, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who are willing to contribute more broadly to school life. Additional expertise, such as boarding, sports coaching or chaplaincy, would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations of pupils and a commitment to developing English and literacy across the School from EYFS to Year 8.
