Eton College has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Teacher to join the History department on a two- year fixed term contract starting in September 2026. We are recruiting for Graduate Teachers for the following pool of departments – Design, Drama, Economics, History, Modern Languages & Cultures and Science.
We are seeking a passionate Graduate Teacher of History to join our dynamic and successful department. With inspiring and supportive colleagues and outstanding facilities including a dedicated history library and seminar space, this is an excellent place to begin your teaching career.
Our curriculum is both broad and distinctive. Year 9 pupils explore themes such as Revolution and Radicalism and Power, Conflict, and Destruction. The majority of boys go on to study Edexcel IGCSE History, and those continuing to A level choose from specialised courses in Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern History, as well as History of Art. All are taught by subject specialists with deep expertise.
History also flourishes beyond the classroom. There is a thriving History Society which hosts a rich range of speakers and there are numerous opportunities for pupils to extend their research skills and intellectual curiosity, whether through essay competitions, or our History Journal which showcases boys’ historical writing.
With our unique curriculum, excellent facilities, and breadth of expertise, the department is ideally placed to nurture and inspire graduate teachers. Above all, we seek strong subject knowledge and a passion for history.
Eton is committed to the development of excellent teachers. Our Graduate Teacher Programme provides the opportunity for six graduates each year to begin their professional journey in teaching by immersing themselves in a full-boarding environment for two years. The programme offers structured, wide-ranging and personalised training, development and mentorship. It embodies Eton’s holistic vision of education, providing extensive experience and skills development within the three intersecting spheres of school life: academic, pastoral and co-curricular
Across the two years of the programme our Graduate Teachers will build the foundations for a successful and fulfilling career in teaching.
In addition to the above, in order to enrol on the QTS Apprenticeship Route with PGCE, you will need to demonstrate that you hold the right to work and study in the UK and have been normally resident in the UK/EEA for the last three years.
