Courses for Members

We offer a comprehensive programme of professional development training courses designed to keep bursars and members of the senior management team up-to-date with the key issues affecting independent schools. Most of these are held in the autumn and spring terms.

 New bursars' course (residential)

Newly appointed bursars of ISBA member schools can attend a residential two-day 'New Bursars' Course', run in early November each year, which provides a comprehensive introduction to all the issues facing bursars in independent schools.  Topics covered include the relationships between the chair of governors, head and bursar, the role of clerk to the governors, charity law and charity accounting, public benefit, inspections, safeguarding, employment law, health and safety and much more. 

Accredited health and safety courses

In association with ROSPA, accredited health and safety training makes a valuable contribution to a bursar's professional development portfolio.

E-learning

The ISBA has joined forced with the training provider Educare to offer new members of schools' senior management team and governing body a comprehensive online introduction to the statutory safeguarding regulations for independent schools and their health and safety responsibilities.

Level 3-5 Award in Leadership & Management

The ISBA has invited Serco Education to deliver a pathway of accredited leadership training programmes for middle leaders working in support roles within the independent school sector.  These awards are delivered through a blended learning approach involving a face to face workshop followed by supported online studies.  All levels are accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM)
