Job description

Malvern College is seeking to appoint an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to support Malvern College and the wider Malvern Family of Schools.

After nine years of excellent service to the College, the current Bursar, Guy Ralphs, has decided to retire at the end of December 2020. As well as managing the College’s finances and operations Guy has led the very successful development of the College’s commercial activities and the growth of the Malvern schools, in the UK and overseas, transforming the College’s finances and putting the College in an enviable position compared to many of its peers. As Clerk to the College Council and Bursar to the Downs, Malvern he has served and guided a large body of trustees seamlessly through many agendas, policies and meetings.

The holder of this key post will be responsible for ensuring the successful and efficient day-to-day operation of the College’s support services. Reporting to the Headmaster, the COO will be a member of the College’s Senior Management Team (SMT), and will take responsibility for the non-teaching administration of the College.

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional candidate to provide strong operational leadership and financial understanding to ensure that the College, and the wider Malvern Family, continues to enjoy outstanding support services and robust finances.

The role contains a significant leadership element and thus requires exceptional people-management skills including diplomacy, patience and tolerance as well as outstanding business and administrative expertise.

Malvern College has a rich and distinguished history, yet looks to the future in seeking to develop outstanding young people with the skills, resilience and initiative to flourish in a rapidly changing global market place.

The post is for January 2021 and commands a comprehensive package, commensurate with the importance of the post and the standing of the school, and is accompanied with other significant benefits.
